Introduction

The Leviathan and Behemoth were created on the fifth day of creation.

Genesis 1:21

20 And God said, “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the firmament of the heavens.” 21 So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” 23 And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.

In fact they were the first flesh God created.

Jubilees 2:11

11 These three kinds He made on the fourth day. And on the fifth day He created great sea monsters in the depths of the waters, for these were the first things of flesh that were created by his hands, the fish and everything that moves in the waters, and everything that flies, the birds and all their kind.

They were so large that there wasn't a place they could both fit on land together.

2 Esdras 6:42 & 47-52

42 Upon the third day thou didst command that the waters should be gathered in the seventh part of the earth: six parts hast thou dried up, and kept them, to the intent that of these some being planted of God and tilled might serve thee.

....

47 Upon the fifth day thou saidst unto the seventh part, where the waters were gathered that it should bring forth living creatures, fowls and fishes: and so it came to pass.

48 For the dumb water and without life brought forth living things at the commandment of God, that all people might praise thy wondrous works.

49 Then didst thou ordain two living creatures, the one thou calledst Enoch (Behemoth), and the other Leviathan;

50 And didst separate the one from the other: for the seventh part, namely, where the water was gathered together, might not hold them both.

51 Unto Enoch thou gavest one part, which was dried up the third day, that he should dwell in the same part, wherein are a thousand hills:

52 But unto Leviathan thou gavest the seventh part, namely, the moist; and hast kept him to be devoured of whom thou wilt, and when.

Reminds me of a Psalm...

Psalm 50:10

For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.

Behemoth is male - Leviathan maybe female?

1 Enoch 60:7-10

7 “And on that day were two monsters parted, a female monster named Leviathan, to dwell in the abysses of the ocean over the fountains of the waters. 8 But the male is named Behemoth, who occupied with his breast a waste wilderness named Duidain, on the east of the garden where the elect and righteous dwell, where my grandfather was taken up, the seventh from Adam, the first man whom the Lord of Spirits created. 9 And I besought the other angel that he should show me the might of those monsters, how they were parted on one day and cast, the one into the abysses of the sea, and the other unto the dry land of the wilderness. 10 And he said to me: ' Thou son of man, herein thou dost seek to know what is hidden.’”

Did you notice that 1 Enoch, Noah is expanding on what was described in 2 Esdra? They were both separated on the same day because they were too big for one piece of land. Wow.

Job's Descriptions

Job Describe the Behemoth

Job 40:15-24 (KJV)

And (I saw) Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.

16 Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.

17 He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.

18 His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron.

19 He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.

20 Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.

21 He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens.

22 The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.

23 Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth.

24 He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares.

Job Describe the Leviathan

Job 41:1-34 (KJV)

1 Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down?

2 Canst thou put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn?

3 Will he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft words unto thee?

4 Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever?

5Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?

6 Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants?

7Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish spears?

8Lay thine hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.

9 Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him?

10None is so fierce that dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me?

11 Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine.

12 I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion.

13 Who can discover the face of his garment? or who can come to him with his double bridle?

14 Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round about.

15 His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal.

16 One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.

17 They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered.

18 By his neesings a light doth shine, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.

19 Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out.

20 Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron.

21 His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.

22 In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him.

23 The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved.

24 His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone.

25 When he raiseth up himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves.

26 The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon.

27 He esteemeth iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood.

28 The arrow cannot make him flee: slingstones are turned with him into stubble.

29 Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear.

30 Sharp stones are under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the mire.

31 He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment.

32 He maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary.

33 Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear.

34 He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride.

Abraham is Shown Leviathan

Abraham was taken to the highest heaven where the Most High resides and looks down on the circle of our plane. He saw everything included Leviathan and where it lives. It dwells in the abyss of the sea and the world lies above him.

Apocalypse of Abraham 21:3-5

And (I saw) there the earth and its fruit, and its moving things and its things that had souls, and its host of men and the impiety of their souls and their justification, and their pursuit of their works and the abyss and its torments, and its lower depths and (the) perdition in it. And I saw there the sea and its islands, and its cattle and its fish, and Leviathan and his realm and his bed and his lairs, and the world which lay upon him, and his motions and the destruction he caused the world. I saw there the rivers and their upper (reaches) and their circles.

Leviathan Used for Sport

Angels even get to have some fun with it.

Job 40:14 (LXX)

“This is the chief of the creation of the Lord. Made to be played with by his angels.

Job 41:24-25 (LXX)

There is nothing on the earth like him. Formed to be sported with by my angels. He beholds every high thing. And he is king of all that are in the waters.

The same verse in the Masoratic (modern Bibles) says the “King over the Sons of pride” in stead of "all that are in the water." (Not a very clear translation from Greek.)

Leviathan was formed to be hunted or sported with by Yahweh's angelic armies.

Psalm 104:24-26

O LORD, how many are Your works!
In wisdom You have made them all;
The earth is full of Your possessions.

There is the sea, great and broad,
In which are swarms without number,
Animals both small and great.

There the ships move along,
And Leviathan, which You have formed to sport in it.

Yeshua Slays Them

When Yeshua returns with his myriads of angels to round up the the wicked kings of the earth, slay the beast and the false prophet, he also slays these two sea monsters creatures! Sweet.

Isaiah 27:1

In that day the LORD will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent,
With His fierce and great and mighty sword,
Even Leviathan the twisted serpent;
And He will kill the dragon who lives in the sea.

“That Day” is what is being talked about as the Day of the Lord. The most important and talked about day as seen by all the writings of the prophets.

Amos 9:3

Though they hide on the summit of Carmel, I will search them out and take them from there; And though they conceal themselves from My sight on the floor of the sea, From there I will command the serpent and it will bite them.

Psalm 74:13-14

You divided the sea by your might; you broke the heads of the sea monsters on the waters. You crushed the heads of Leviathan; you gave him as food for the creatures of the wilderness.

Steak or Seafood for the Survivors

Leviathan and Behemoth were created to become food for the surviving nations of Yahwehs wrath which takes place on the Day of the Lord. How merciful and gracious is our God. From the beginning of creation he knew the end and that there would be a deviated earth system in need of being renewed. He also knew that there would be surviving nations who would choose not to fight against Yeshua and his angels during their coming and like a loving Father, made food preparations for them in advance. God truly is love.

2 Baruk 29: 3-4

And it shall come to pass when all is accomplished that was to come to pass in those parts, that the Messiah shall then begin to be revealed. And Behemoth shall be revealed from his place and Leviathan shall ascend from the sea, those two great monsters which I created on the fifth day of creation, and shall have kept until that time; and then they shall be for food for all that are left.

2 Esdras 6:52

And though has kept them to be eaten by whom thou wilt and when thou wilt.

Psalm 74:13-14

You divided the sea by your might; you broke the heads of the sea monsters on the waters. You crushed the heads of Leviathan; you gave him as food for the creatures of the wilderness.

Psalm 74:13-14 (LXX)

Thou didst establish the sea and thy might, though didst break to pieces the head of the dragon in the water. Though didst break in pieces the head of the dragon, thou didst give him [for] meat to the Ethiopian nations.

1 Enoch 60:12

And the angel of peace who was with me said, these two monster are by the power of God, prepared to become food, that the punishment of God might not be in vain.

1 Enoch 60:24

And the angel of peace who was with me said to me: ' These two monsters, prepared conformably to the greatness of God, shall feed . . . [fragment ends]

Yahweh always keeps his standards and it seems these monster are even by His standards considered clean. (Wow, talk about everything adding up.)

Laws for land animals:

Leviticus 11: 3

Whatever divides a hoof, thus making split hooves, and chews the cud, among the animals, that you may eat.

Not much is said about Behemoth exact that it eats grass and that the mountains bring him food in Job 40:20. So he seems likely to be clean.

Laws for sea creatures:

Leviticus 11: 9

These you may eat, whatever is in the water; all that have fins and scales, those in the water, in the sea, or in the rivers you may eat.

Job 41: 15

Leviathans strong scales are his pride, shut up with a tight seal.

So those scales indicate it is clean. If you think Salmon is nice, can you imagine?! Yummy.

Jesus Calming the Storm

Here is a very cool article about Jesus calming the spirit of Leviathan when he calmed the stomr in the boat.

Fairly Accurate Depictions

As with most thing, Hollywood and big industraties have knowledge of these things and mix it up, but you get parts of good depiction all over the place. Like in that Noah movie when they had the Rock monsters - sure there were Nephilim in Noahs day destryoing things, but they LATER turned into some of the rocks and mountains we see now. It's truth in your face, but distorted so that you never get a clear picture.

Sometimes they make some pretty dang good depictions and Final Fantasy games do a good job most of the time. In FF15 they're have a pretty great depiction of Leviathan. It even talks which seems like a reference to the "Leviathan Spirit" that is mentioned elsewhere in scripture. Check this out and just imagine the majesty of watch. Jesus slay something similar.

Leviathan Summon in Final Fantasy 15

It goes to show there truely is nothing new under the sun.

Behemoth Summon in Final Fantasy

Another thought it Godzilla. It even comes out of the sea and it did say all of these texts that they were both "sea monsters." Anyway you just start seeing where they draw their ideas and illustrations from.
